Downloading Images from DNGP Exercise 2 - Creating an Area of Interest (AOI) in DNGP Although it is not necessary for you to log in to DNGP to obtain images, we encourage you to log in because doing so allows you to save an area of interest (AOI) and use it the next time you visit DNGP.
Task1: Log into DNGP Let's log in and look at some imagery. 1. Click and enter the USER ID and password you created in the previous step.If you have trouble logging in, please contact Ho Jin Kim (hkim@und.nodak.edu). After logging in you would get the option to change your account information, password or the secret question by going to the 'ACCOUNT' menu. ![]() Task2: Creating an area of Interest - AOI (only available for users who have created an account in DNGP) ![]() 1. Click and then click in the viewer to zoom in to the desired area or click and drag a box to zoom in to an area, such as a county. 2. Click the checkbox next to the township layer - the checkbox should turn green . 3. Click and the townships will be displayed in the viewer.![]() 4. Continue using the zoom tool until the area displayed in the viewer represents the area you want to save as an AOI. As you zoom in the township names will become visible and will be helpful in selecting your AOI. You may want to display other GIS layers such as highways or rivers to aid in your selection. Use the zoom out and tools to adjust the display area if necessary. ![]() Note: Your AOI should not be too large or too small. We generally recommend an area no larger than two townships and no smaller than four sections in size. The larger the AOI the longer it will take to download to your PC. For this reason you may want to consider your internet speed when creating your AOI. Smaller AOI = faster download. 5. When the desired area is displayed in the viewer click to save your new AOI. 6. Enter a name for the AOI and click to save your AOI. Check to make sure your new AOI is available in the pull down list. ![]() Congratulations! You have successfully created an AOI in DNGP! | Tutorials |
