Viewfinder Tutorial Sharpening or Softening the Image
Viewfinder also allows you to increase or decrease the definition of edges in an image. If you intend to use your imagery to examine small differences in the reflectances for a particular field, you may want to sharpen the image. If you are more interested in landscape level changes, you may want to tone down the pixel by pixel variability by softening the image.
- In order to sharpen the image, click on the sharpen image icon icon. Notice that the contrast between areas of different reflectances increases. Here's an example screenshot. This process searches for areas of change, and enhances them spectrally.
- Now try the soften function by clicking on the soften function icon button. Here's an example screenshot. How is the appearance different from the result of the sharpen function? How is it different from the original image? Use the undo icon button to undo the changes you have made.
- Finally, try the outline edges icon button to outline the edges that occur in the image. Here's an example screenshot.
